Short answer
If you sell wholesale and need certificates collected, reviewed and expired in one place, there are about ten apps on the Shopify App Store that do part or all of it: seven aimed at US sales-tax certificates or general exemptions and three EU-focused (EU VAT). This is not a complete list. Choose by the tax region you sell in and the price you will pay after any free plan.

Where Hexloom Tax Exempt differs
- Canada: our listing names Canada. Resale certificates from US states, BC, MB and SK, and Canadian status-card and diplomat certificates, use Shopify's own exemption code and are applied when you approve; any other certificate (for example a resale certificate from Ontario or Quebec) needs your confirmation of a full exemption first, and the app says so. No rival's listing summary names Canada; rival scope is taken from their listings and was not tested in depth, so read each one for your region.
- Expiry handling: buyers are emailed 30 days before and at expiry, and the exemption is removed on the expiry date. Several other apps above list expiry reminders, alerts or tracking too; compare how each one works.
- Price: a Free plan for up to 3 approved certificates at a time, then US$12 a month (7-day free trial on a shop's first subscription, billed by Shopify) with no limit on approved certificates. Four other apps above (ExemptSync, CertDesk, Paperwork, TaxWisp) also show a free plan or free price as of the last-checked date; the limits differ, so compare them on each listing.
What it does not do
It does not file or remit tax, validate a certificate with a state, or give tax advice. You decide whether a certificate is acceptable.
